April Newsletter

Message from the Rector

The clocks have changed, and the nights are drawing in once again. A very busy and seemingly fast term has gone by, and I hope that everyone gets a rest with whānau over the break.

Our boys should be able to reflect on the opportunities they have taken this term - many of which are shared in this newsletter - and the strides that have been made in their learning.

In Term 2, we will once again enter an unstable time for education in the political arena, with further strikes planned. Southland Boys' High School will do all it can to support our students and minimise disruption, whilst understanding and supporting our staff and their current position.

The roofing on Pearce block is in full swing, despite the weather, and I thank you for your understanding around the lack of parking and access to the front of the school. The main gate remains closed for all vehicles not associated with the site work.

We look forward with anticipation to the start of winter codes, productions, our very special Anzac service, and the ball in Term 2.

I wish you all a happy and safe Easter.

Black Sticks Selection - Benji Culhane

News just in - Benji Culhane has been selected for the Black Sticks men's hockey team! This is an incredible achievement, and we're extremely proud.

Benji left Southland Boys' High School in 2020. His first games as a Black Stick will be against Australia and Great Britain in Christchurch from April 22 to April 30, and we'll be cheering him on from here!

Famous Young Chefs

As part of Savour the South, some of our Catering students will be taking part in the Famous Young Chef's Degustation Luncheon.

Returning for its third year, this 5-course luncheon with matching wines is prepared by chefs in training using produce grown in Southland. The chefs are mentored throughout by 8 internationally recognised working chefs - creating a pathway for further training and professional development.

This event has been a highlight of Savour the South over the last few years, so don't miss out!
