Kia Ora Tatou ANZAC service On Thursday morning we held our annual ANZAC service. This is the closest time where we can join as a whole school prior to the 25th of April. The service was solemn, reflective and a fitting tribute to those that made the ultimate sacrifice or have served since. I would like to thank Mrs Milne and Mrs Maber from the RSA for the attendance and speech, and Alex Anderson who played a magnificent rendition of The Last Post. Paid Union Meeting We have been given notice that there will be a Paid Union Meeting on Monday May 20th. We will provide more details closer to the time but it does mean that the school will close early to allow teachers to attend a meeting from 1pm to 3pm. Buses will continue to run on that day at the usual times. Attendance It has been great to see a lift in attendance during term one by many students. Having an attendance of at least 80% and ideally 90% plus has been shown to produce improved academic achievement and a greater sense of well being. We look forward to as many students as possible being able to represent the school at their chosen sport or cultural activity with over 80% attendance especially as winter sport starts. USA study trip Our United States study trip, with a focus on the Arts, is leaving on Sunday. We wish them all the best as they head overseas. They will be visiting New York, Philadelphia and Washington DC. During this time they will goto a Broadway show, baseball game, art galleries and the many famous museum and monuments. A big thank you to Mrs Williams, Mrs Penn and the parents who are going on the trip and have done a great deal of work to make this happen. Farewell to our Thailand students Our visiting students from Thailand have had a wonderful time. Thanks you to all the buddied and host families for making them so welcome. When the Mayor Bryan Cadogan came to bid them farewell he asked what the highlights of their trip were. And he got the following responses “the way we are treated at the school”, “a wonderful learning environment and atmosphere” and “the Kiwi culture”.

And finally We have completed the longest term of the year. Now it is time to reflect on what has gone well and celebrate those moments. During the holidays I encourage all students to take the time to connect with friends, remember to enjoy the simple things and continue to be active. Come back fresh and ready for term two..
