20 October 2023 Newsletter

Kia Ora Tatou

As we approach the long weekend it is good to see some sunshine and the possibility of being able to get outside and make the most of the extra day off on Monday for Labour Day.

With the second week of the term drawing to a close it is brining the final day for senior students closer to the end of their studies for the year. For senior students, now is the time to focus on achieving the last of the credits or developing work to ensure excellence.

Community feedback
At the end of last term we provided a link to a survey for our school community to provide feedback on the work of South Otago High School. Thank you to those that participated. Your feedback will now be shared with the senior leadership team and the Board of Trustees as we start to develop our strategic plan. It was interesting to read some of the areas that the community would like to see change have also been discussed with the leadership team and also teachers. I expect to make some announcements about some of the changes we are looking to implement for the start of 2024 in the next few weeks.

School values, REP Cards and junior graduation certificates
For all students, we expect them to submit their REP Cards into school. These cards record when students have demonstrated the values of:

  • Respect
  • Excellence
  • Perseverance

For students in Year 9 and 10 this is very important as we expect students to be working towards and have achieved at least one of their REP badges during the course of the year. This counts towards the awarding of a graduate certificate at the end of  the year. Too often students have the cards but have not submitted them into the box in the foyer and so their achievement is not recognised. I ask parents to encourage students to make sure that they gather up their cards and make sure that they are included in the data for awarding the graduate certificates.

Finally
Enjoy the long weekend. Please do take the time to enjoy the weather and make the most of the opportunity to do something for yourself.
