Thursday 6th April 2023 | Term 1 Week 10 |
Kia ora e te whãnau,
As we wrap up Term 1, we want to take a moment to congratulate our talented students who participated in the Sheilah Winn Drama Festival in Geraldine. We are extremely proud of their hard work and dedication to the arts. A special congratulations to Ariki Curtis, acknowledged for his costuming and high accolades for Joshua Murray, the only student from the region directly selected to represent Aoraki/South Canterbury in Wellington in October this year. The group has been ably supported by their teacher (and our DP), Charlotte Saunders.
Congratulations also to Brooke Smith and our Year 3 and 4 Rippa Rugby Team who took second place in the regional competition!
We would also like to acknowledge the Home and School Committee for their incredible fundraising efforts this term. The support we receive from our parents and caregivers is invaluable and greatly appreciated. They held their annual AGM earlier this week and have lofty plans for the remainder of the year.
Our rowing team would like to thank the individuals who organised and attended the Mihi Whakatau and the community for supporting the team. Your support means everything to our athletes. There is an article about their Maadi journey and experience in this newsletter.
The Year 11-13 Mentor Reports for Term 1 are now available for parents to access through the school website login portal. Please take the time to review these reports and discuss your child's progress with them.
Please note that Term 2 will commence on the 24th of April, with an unusual start for Week One. Apologies in advance for any inconvenience caused: - Monday, 24th April, will be a regular day for the Year 1-6 students, Y7-10 will be invited to a Wellbeing Day in the Community Hall, and our Y11-13 students will attend a Tournament Practice.
- Tuesday, 25th April, is Anzac Day - so there is no school.
- Wednesday the 26th and Thursday the 27th are regular school days.
- There is a Teacher Only Day on the 28th of April. The teacher-only day is a mandated Accord Day for Ministry of Education experts to visit the school and train our teachers about the Curriculum Refresh and NCEA Change Process.
Please be aware that industrial action will continue in Term 2 whilst the teaching unions and government come to contractual agreements. There is an article giving detail about this within the newsletter. One of the actions involves teachers being unable to work outside the hours of 8.30 am to 4.30 pm. As a result, the school door opening time will be 8.40 am to allow teachers to complete their morning briefing before students enter the building.
Our apologies that the new school bus company have not yet confirmed times for the service with the school. I understand that our Ministry of Education liaison is currently on leave, so this will remain unconfirmed until the middle of the holidays. The school will be in touch as soon as we have further information to share.
Finally, we would like to wish everyone a safe and happy Easter break. We look forward to seeing our students return for Term 2.
Thank you for your ongoing support of our school. He waka eke noa.
