Control what you can control |
We live in a world where lots of things are happening. There is a lot of 'noise' and activity out there and on Social Media. The way to cope and reduce the challenge around events and 'noise' is to focus on controlling the controllables and controlling your response to them. Other events and challenges have to be responded to but you can decide how you respond to them. The last two weeks will be busy with positive events that can give us all more control over these two weeks and the rest of the year. Things that we can control; Thursday 30/3 Year 10 & 11 Family Hui. Wednesday 5/4 Year 12 & 13 Family Hui. Reports issued on those evenings. Year 9 Reports 'posted' on the portal and emailed. Academic Assessments Yr 11, 12 & 13 completed this term.
These evenings will be the opportunity to receive your child's report, meet their tutor teacher and receive key information about the College this year. There will be the opportunity to have subject report evenings later in term 2. As students, parents and whānau take control of the information provided at these events, manage the assessment timeline and you can have a better outcome because you are managing it. We have worked hard to mitigate any extra days off school this year by cancelling Teachers professional development day, school athletics, and modifying the parent whānau hui so that fewer teaching days are lost. We can't control the ongoing Industrial Action but will work around it and hope that sensible and realistic solutions are agreed upon sooner rather than later. In the meantime control and respond positively to the good opportunities over these next two weeks. Ngā mihi Mark P Shanahan |
