A Confident Start to 2024 |
We began Term 1 of 2024 with a confident start as there were no storms, floods or Covid, which was the first time since 2020. Our students are enthusiastic to engage with school and their learning once again.
Academically, we are surpassing the national trend of declining NCEA results. The manawanui, preparation and positive learning of our students and staff has produced exceptional pass rates, which have provided a great platform for students into Levels 2 and 3, and tertiary courses. The pass rates are as follows:
- Level 1 NCEA: 71% - above all national averages and equity indicators. - Level 2 NCEA: 78% - above all national averages and equity indicators. - Level 3 NCEA: 78% - above all national averages and equity indicators. - Literacy: 98% - above all national averages and equity indicators. - Numeracy: 98% - above all national averages and equity indicators. - NZQA Scholarships in 4 subjects.
These outstanding results confirm our reputation as a college that ensures students can be the best they can be. Our student roll is up in Year 9, which reflects the confidence our community has in the opportunities our rangitahi receive here at Waitākere College. We celebrated our Powhiri to welcome Year 9 and new to Waitākere College Year 10-13 students with Kaumatua Warahi Paki and Kuia Linda Paki.
We have similar 'Phone Away' rules as last year, and we will implement our 'Phones Away for the Day' as we progress through this term. We thank you for supporting this. We look forward to meeting whānau and parents at the upcoming Year 9 BBQ and Achievers Assembly to celebrate success.
