Term 1 has begun with a positive atmosphere. We have a large number of enthusiastic students, refreshed and energized teachers and staff, and we are celebrating strong academic results alongside parents and whānau. Here are our results: Level 1 NCEA: 62% - This is a decrease from 2024 but remains above the national average and the Decile/Equity percentages across the country. Level 2 NCEA: 86% - This is an improvement over 2024 and is also above the national average and Decile/Equity percentages. Level 3 NCEA: 79% - This result exceeds 2024 and is higher than the national average and Decile/Equity percentages. These results are commendable for our students, staff, and families to celebrate. Despite being the first modified year for Level 1 NCEA, we still outperformed the national average. Moving forward, we need to consolidate our efforts in Level 1 and focus on our University Entrance (UE) eligible students, where 56% passed. (Officially, it was 38% for all Year 13 students, but many Year 13 students participate in our Trades Academy and are not eligible to pursue both Trades and UE. However, they are included in the UE totals). We will provide more details about our activities related to UE and Level 1 as the term progresses. Our new teachers at the college are committed to fostering academic achievement for our rangatahi while instilling the values of the Waitākere Way: Learning, Caring, and Respect. Our college roll now stands at 2,000 students, creating a vibrant campus. At Waitākere College, we believe that a strong school fosters a strong community, and a strong community, in turn, strengthens the school. We will work diligently to maintain this relationship.
