Thursday 12th October 2023 | Term 4 Week 1 |
Kia ora e te whānau and welcome back to term four. Thanks to those of you who came to our rescheduled end-of-term assembly yesterday. It was great to see so much support as we finally got the chance to celebrate the successes of term three.
This is a busy term for our senior students as they prepare for their final exams, beginning in a few weeks time. Our senior students should have a study plan in place and ensure they are finishing off their remaining internal assessments before study leave. We are well into the process of organising student leaders for 2024. We have a strong pool of applicants and look forward to announcing these roles at our end-of-year prizegiving.
Congratulations to Finn McKinley who has received a number of successes recently, that will see him have a very busy Christmas break. He was selected to be part of the Rotary National Science & Technology Forum, which is aimed at Year 12 students who demonstrate a strong interest in Science, Mathematics and/or Technology, and is in Auckland over two weeks in January. He has also received a place on the University of Canterbury Science Summer Camp in January. Finn and Monique van der Westhuizen are also off to Timaru next week for the YES (Young Enterprise Scheme) regional finals.
Congratulations too, to our Year 13 students that have been awarded scholarships for 2024 - Monique, Billy and Brandon. Read more about these amazing scholarships later in this newsletter.
Course selection for 2024 is currently open to all students in Year 10 to 12, and is available through SchoolBridge. For those whānau who are unsure of the best courses for their ākonga, or for those new to NCEA next year who would like to know more, we will be having a course selection evening on Wednesday October 25th - see the poster later in this newsletter for more information.
Today, our M3 class have their Markey Day that has been organised entirely by the students. We look forward to seeing the range of stalls and activities they have and know it will be a fun lunch for all students who participate in this. We also have some exciting events coming up soon, starting with a Halloween Movie Day on October 22nd.
We wish M1 all the best for their camp next week. Thanks to Sandy Nelson and Karatī Metcalfe for their organisation and supervision of this, alongside a number of parent helpers.
