Term 2 - Week 4

Tēnā koutou,

Proudly, we’ve had an amazing three nights of Mamma Mia performances!  As I’ve said to many people, the scale and execution of our production - I believe - is as good as any school in the country.  The cast and crew will rest on Friday night and then there will be two remaining performances - a matinee at 1pm on Saturday and a Saturday evening performance at 7pm.  The support and feedback so far has been amazing, so if you haven’t seen it I would encourage you to take advantage of one of these opportunities.

This week, we have also been celebrating Youth Week - lunchtime activities organised by our youth for our youth.  As I said to the students in an assembly yesterday, they are the heartbeat of our school - sometimes they make our hearts beat a little too fast - but we are proud of the character our students display, and with your support we will continue to try and shape and mould the best possible human beings for the future of Taupō.

For families of bus students, I would like highlight the Taupō School Bus Transport facebook page https://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=61561068569103.  On this page you will get updates about any changes to bus routes which may affect your child.  We will endeavour to send text messages to affected parents and caregivers for any bus announcements, but this page should give you the most updated information.

Next week, students will be sitting the first round of NCEA reading, writing and numeracy common assessment tasks for 2025. These are critically important for students in Year 11, 12 and 13 who are sitting, as without achieving NZQA’s numeracy and literacy standards they cannot achieve their overall NCEA qualifications. Students and whānau will have received emails if they are participating, which will have included guidance around equipment and arriving 15 minutes before the assessment. We wish them the best of luck!

Along with regular attendance, it is also important that our students learn the important habits of being at school on time - all great lessons for future employment.  If your child is going to be late to school, please send them with a written note to the school office when they sign in, or call the school to let us know.  Please include a brief explanation for the reason they are late.  There are a few students who are beginning to create habits of lateness which will ultimately affect their learning - we will be looking at a natural consequence for these students to make up some time at break times if it becomes a habit.  We appreciate your support to reinforce the importance of being at school on time each morning.

Have a great weekend!

    Ngā mihi
