The Waitākere Way

With 400+ year 9 students in the College, 31 new teachers, and another 88 new students enrolling in February, the College has been busy.
Thank you to our Teachers, Teacher aides and school administration staff that have made the journey into Waitākere College successful for these new students, their families and whānau.
Our focus for us all as Teachers is the implementation of our School Vision and Strategic Goals 2023-2025 which also relate to our values - Learning, Caring, and Respect. This Vision statement is on our website under School Vision.
Our simple but consistent messages around our values are.

Learning:
Be present and on time for each class.
Bring the correct equipment and appropriate school bag.
Use the Student Planner.
Bring your Chromebook/Laptop.
Learn 1 key new skill or use of knowledge per lesson.

Caring:
Be kind and show tolerance to each other.
Don't tolerate bullies.
Avoid vapes, unlawful drugs, alcohol, cigarettes, etc.
Avoid people/students involved in these activities.

Respect:
Congratulate peers on their success.
Be honest and trustworthy.
Wear the uniform with pride in and out of the College.
Pick up rubbish and respect your environment
Greet staff as Sir, Miss, Matua or Whaea.

These are just some of our reference points around our values but it allows students and staff to build a positive learning culture in the College.
We want the journey of our new students and staff to be a positive one and to continue to strengthen the Waitakere Way in our Years 10 - 13 as we go through 2023.

Ngā mihi
Mark P Shanahan
