Better Than Before (BTB) How Do I Get There?

With three weeks to go this term the focus for our senior rangatahi and their teachers is on academic completion of Internal Assessments and practise exams for the External Assessments.
NCEA has the magic of allowing students to achieve success throughout the year with Internal Assessments and also External Assessments in November for Years 11, 12 and 13 exams. It is a two-pronged success story for Rangatahi.
For Internal Assessments you need to know;

  • What the requirements are needed for Achieved (A), Merit (M), Excellence (E)
  • Exemplars of A, M & E for reference so you can work to that level. Check with your teachers.
  • The milestone or checkpoint dates you have to meet to keep on track for the assessment completion.
  • Get them done and manage your diary so that these are a priority.

For External Assessments you need to;

  • Be making study notes/ topic summaries that you can use for the practice exams in preparation for the finals in November.
  • Get past questions from your teachers (or relevant study websites) to test yourself with. About 3 examples per Standard.
  • Practise writing the answers on model answer sheets so that you get used to writing for the exam.
  • Add/edit your study notes after the practice exams and keep going over and over so that that knowledge can be recalled and used from memory. Repeat, repeat, repeat.
  • Keep study notes tidy for easy reference.

This is the time of the year when you can prepare and ensure that you are 'Better Than Before' (BTB)
