I want to thank you for your support and cooperation during our first week at Waitākere College Stage Three. Having the college open for learning has provided a consistent level of confidence and certainty for us all. As more of our families and whanau work their way through recovery, more and more students and staff are returning to school. This regular return to school and positive establishment of good learning routines will only make our academic and school spirit rebound stronger. Our current plan will continue for the next couple of weeks; however, a review will hopefully allow us to respond differently from week 8. For our professional development programme, the college has embarked on a school-wide literacy programme called the Writers Toolbox for our year 9 and 10 students. We have invested in this programme for three years as we see this tool as vital for helping our students write well and achieve highly. While this is only a tool, we believe it will help accelerate our students’ ability in years 9 and 10, preparing them for NCEA. As a digitally rich school, we want to ensure that our students are always on the right side of the digital divide. That’s why we work so hard to assist our students with writing and communicating so they can realise their full potential. Rest assured, we will continue to update you on our progress as a college and that of your tamariki or mokopuna.
