Term 3 - week 9
Kia ora, koutou.
Nau mai, haere mai ki Te Wiki o Te Reo Māori. This week has been Māori language week across Aotearoa. We were able to conclude the week with the whole school meeting in our quad to perform ‘Tu Tauira,’ our school haka. It was a special moment for students and staff to be able to celebrate our unique taonga of the Māori language in this way.
Our Kapa Haka rōpu, Te Awhiorangi, performed at Taiopenga (Tūwharetoa Festival) on Thursday. I had the privilege of being able to attend the performance in person. Our students represented our kura with such pride, and it was an amazing performance to witness. The haka tautoko which followed their performance reverberated around venue with such force. It was clear to see how much pride the supporters had due to Te Awhiorangi’s performance as well. I know that many classes back at school tuned in to watch the performance via the live link as well.
As you know, our school is a bring your own device (BYOD) school. Unfortunately, lots of our school loaned computers are coming to the end of their life. Laptops do have a limited life span. We are running out of devices we can loan to students, so it’s a good time of year to start planning on purchasing student owned devices for 2024. Students will need a laptop throughout their schooling, so we would appreciate your support if you are in a position to purchase a device your child could use here at school.
On Wednesday I sent out an email regarding our community Health Education consultation. There was a technical glitch (my fault) where two of the links went to the same document. One of the links was supposed to take you to our Junior Health Summary. The link to our junior health summary has been provided below. Thank you to all of you who have provided feedback thus far.
Junior Health Summary 2023
Below are some important panui (notices):
Ballot for 2024 The ballot for students living out-of-zone took place on Wednesday 13 September. Communication will be sent to all families who had a child currently in Year 8 or Year 12 about whether their out-of-zone application was successful or not. The out-of-zone enrolment process for 2024 has now closed and from here we can only accept students who live within our school zone.
