Kia Ora Tatou Tournament week I am very much looking forward to the boys football tournament in Invercargill next week. In an ideal world the weather forecast will pick up a bit and the sunscreen on the gear list will be needed. However, it’s one of the highlights of my year and now all the planning, preparation and hard work is done, it's time to enjoy the games. It is a privilege to represent the school at tournament or any other event. I know that teachers will come back full of pride about how the students have represented the school. In terms of playing hard but fair during the games and giving it their all. In some ways this is the easy part. Its why we go and why we love our sports. The other way that you show your gratitude to the parents, volunteers, teachers and coaches who are all giving up their time for free is by your attitude during the entire time you are away. I know I won’t agree with every decision the referee makes but I will respect it. In the same way you may well not agree with the coaches or referees all the time but you need to be respectful and follow the school expectations at all times. Good luck to all teams going. SADD (Students Against Dangerous Driving) On Tuesday afternoon our senior students had a magnificent first hand demonstration of how emergency services respond to a motor vehicle accident. This was a simulation run near the New Gym. The collaboration between the local fire, ambulance, undertaker and police services offered students an invaluable opportunity to understand the roles and team work involved in managing real life emergencies. In particular a thank you to Oliver Shore for his work in organising this event. Pride week Thank you to everyone involved in their work for Pride week. This is a time where we celebrate the rainbow community in particular and diversity in general. I have enjoyed seeing the student involvement in the activities put on by teachers and the QSA group. Conferences We have just opened up our Conference bookings on www.schoolinterviews.co.nz please use the code ktuwd to book times with mentors on: Tuesday 10th September from 4pm to 8pm Wednesday 11th September from 8:40am to 3:00pm These are 20 minutes appointments with the mentor to review progress made during the year and to set goals for the remainder of the year. We would like to have students accompanying parents or caregivers where possible. And finally If you are picking up or dropping off students in vehicles at the start or end of the day please can you do so safely. We have had reports of U-turns when Frances Street is busy and that some people have been driving too quickly. These are busy times, especially while the younger students are going to and from Rosebank primary, so we all need to play our part to keep everyone safe.
