Term 4 - week 2
Kia ora, koutou.
As I mentioned last week, term four is my favourite term. We have loads of events coming up where we get to celebrate our students’ successes over the year.
Our annual Sports Awards take place on Wednesday next week (25 October) beginning at 5:30 p.m. in the school hall. The Sports Awards are an opportunity to recognise our individuals and teams who have achieved outstanding results in their chosen sports over the past year. I would like to take this opportunity to give special thanks to all our volunteer coaches and managers who gave up their time over the past year to awhi our students in the various sports that we offer. We seriously could not offer our students the wide variety of opportunities they have at our kura without the support of our volunteers. Thank you!
On Friday next week (27 October) we will hold our Senior Assembly for students who placed 2nd and 3rd in their various subjects at 2 p.m. in our school hall.
Our Senior Prizegiving will take place on Thursday 2 November, beginning at 6:30 p.m. in our school hall.
The events above are all fantastic ways to acknowledge the different types of success our students have achieved over the past year. We are proud of all our rangatahi, and we look forward to celebrating the award winners’ success during these events.
Our house haka competition will take place on Tuesday 24 October during whānau time. Our students have been practicing all year long during assemblies to prepare for this competition, and it will great to see them finally put it all together for house points!
A friendly reminder - any visitors coming onsite should come through our main reception and sign in at the office.
Lastly, enjoy Labour Weekend. I hope you all can take some time to do the things which bring you joy over the weekend - and go the AB’s!
Below are some important panui (notices): Accord Teacher Only Day Friday 10 November - this the final full day of preparation set aside for the implementation of the new NCEA level 1 at the beginning of 2024. Those sitting NCEA exams are still required to attend their exam on this day. School will be closed for all other students who do not have an exam on Friday 10 November.
Uniform We are noticing a trend that long trousers are becoming a popular option for many of our students. We want to remind everyone that the grey trousers school (purchased through Argyle School wear) are the only approved trousers for our school uniform. Other types of trousers or track pants are not part of our school uniform and should not be worn by students.
2023 Graduated Study Leave In order to best serve the needs of our students, we will once again take a graduated approach to study leave at the end of the year. Our focus for this will be on pathways and endorsements rather than solely credits. We need to ensure that our students have appropriate pathways for their next year at school and/or to transition to work/further education. Study leave will be granted when there is evidence that the student has achieved the desired outcomes for the year or has the skills to self manage towards these outcomes. Outcomes may include; numeracy/literacy, NCEA, pathways into future subjects, UE, subject or overall endorsements. For students who have been identified by their subject teachers as needing extra help to achieve their goals, the following will apply: Week 5: Normal timetable; students in Groups 1 and 2. Week 6: Collapsed timetable with workshops Week 7: Transition
