Thursday 7th March | Term 1 Week 6

Kia ora e te whānau,

Welcome to another edition of the Twizel Area School Newsletter! We have some exciting updates and important announcements to share with you.

Community Consultation and BBQ:
Don't forget to join us for our community consultation and BBQ later today from 4-6 pm at the rear foyer. Your input is invaluable as we work together to make our school even better. From 4-5 pm, burgers and sausages will be available at the BBQ provided by our Student Executive. At 5 pm, we will gather to learn more about our WAKA Values and their connection to the Graduate Profiles we intend, with your input, to formalise in 2024. Depending on the age of your child(ren) at school, you will then be sent to the following rooms to participate in the consultation exercise, supported by our Student Executive:
→ Years 0-3, Rooms 5/6
→ Years 4-6, Room 7
→ Years 7-10, Room 15
→ Years 11-13, Art Room
You can participate in as many rooms as you need to, based on the ages of your children at school.

Rowing News:
SISS Regatta
Congratulations to our Rowing Team for their outstanding performance at the recent South Island Secondary Schools (SISS) Regatta. Your hard work and dedication have indeed paid off! There were many personal bests, and the following medallists: Gold in the U17 Coxed Quad for Kiara Thyne, Sadie Mason, Hazel Mason, Hazel Henderson and Jazmine Baikie (cox); Bronze in the U18 Novice Double Skulls for Hazel Mason and Taylah Marsh; Gold in the U17 Single Skulls for Sadie Mason and Silver in the U17 Double Skulls for Kiara Thyne and Sadie Mason. Supervising these 17 young people as they progressed through the competition was a pleasure. I’m looking forward to Maadi!

Maadi Non-Uniform Day
Mark your calendars for March 15th! We'll have a non-uniform day as a fundraiser towards some catering for the crew at the Maadi Cup event. Let's show our support!

Maadi Parade Participation
Calling all students and whānau! We're looking for participants to join the Maadi Parade. Meet at the Twizel Medical Centre at 11 am on Sunday, March 17th, to walk with our Rowing Crew and support our school. The parade ends on Wairepo Road.

Country High Schools Athletics in Geraldine:
We're incredibly proud of our Years 7-13 athletes who are representing Twizel Area School at the Country High Schools Athletics event in Geraldine. The events are underway for our 26 competitors while I write this newsletter. I look forward to hearing their results soon.

Board of Trustees (BoT) Election 2024:
Stay tuned for important information regarding the upcoming BoT election. We are seeking to elect two new members to broaden our expertise areas. Your involvement is crucial to our school's governance. Financial Management, Building and Consenting are key areas of expertise we’d like to expand.

Netsafe Forms Reminder:
If your child hasn't already done so, please return your Netsafe forms, which are now overdue. We require parental consent and agreement to Netsafe conditions to ensure the continuation of your child’s safe and responsible internet use at school. If you need a new document, this newsletter will provide a link. If you need to check whether your child has returned the form, please call the office on (03) 435 0650.

Thank you for your continued support and involvement in our school community. Together, we can achieve great things! He waka eke noa,
