Kia ora e te whānau, It has been a very busy week once again at Twizel Area School!
Today saw the whole school take part in 'New Zealand Shake Out', our national earthquake drill. This was a great opportunity for us all of the right action to take in an earthquake. Drop, Cover and Hold.
M1 were fortunate enough to still have a camp/tramp this week, even though there had to be last minute changes made due to the terrible weather earlier in the week. The students have all had a great time getting out in the outdoors and learning how to keep safe in all conditions. Even though they didn't camp on the Monday evening, they still had the opportunity to learn about getting their tents up - though they didn't enjoy the cold conditions in doing so. Thanks to Sandy Nelson and Karatī Metcalfe for their organisation and adapting with the last minute changes. Thanks too, to Kevin McDonald for heading along for part of the trip and the parent helpers who were still able to help out.
A huge congratulations to Finn McKinley and Monique van der Westhuizen for receiving the South Canterbury Chamber of Commerce 'Spirit of Enterprise Award' at the YES (Young Enterprise Scheme) South Canterbury Regional Finals this week. Finn and Monique received this award for Gold Tiki Venture.
Congratulations to M3, for their incredibly successful Market Day last week. The class raised a huge amount of money, which will be shared back with a number of community groups. Off the back of this, Lulu Dodds has been busy leading a team of M3 students in organising a 'Back to the 90's' Middle School Disco - on Thursday November 2nd. They will also be selling ice cream again in the leadup to this Disco, as it was the most successful stall on Market Day. Ice cream will be for sale on our upcoming non-uniform day.
Monique, Ariki and Ella have been working hard to put together another Movie Night. This time, with a Halloween theme. We look forward to your support of this event, this Sunday, in the Events Centre Theatre.
All the best to everyone involved in Hard Labour this weekend. We look forward to hearing of everyone's successes next week.
Have a safe and enjoyable Labour Weekend.
