Newsletter Issue 12

Striving to be better than before

Each fortnight we announce house points in assemblies and I can reveal that the winning house from last term is Matauranga!
Students can earn house points in many ways, some examples are; 100% attendance, weekly report cards, participating in sports, culture or other school groups, service to the school such as road patrol students (introduced in this newsletter), open evening guides, kiwi buddies, or being an ambassador in special programmes such as this week’s taster day that we hosted for Waitākere Primary School.

In assemblies every week we have the "Words Of The Week" competition. This is a literacy initiative where we issue three different words from the academic vocabulary list, which once learned, widens students' understanding of the vocabulary used across different subject areas. In assemblies, if students can tell us the words and use them in a sentence they can gain house points for their respective houses. Students respond to this as a fun way to learn whilst being competitive and passionate about their respective houses.
The collective effort from students, staff and whānau this week, when we all faced a challenging weather event on Tuesday, showed the manawanui, care and kindness we as a community have for each other. We all pull together to keep each other safe. If you have been affected by this weather event our thoughts, prayers and aroha are with you. Kia kaha.

With Mother's Day on Sunday I want to wish mothers, aunties, nanas and significant wāhine bringing up our tamariki and mokopuna a very special day that is filled with love, kindness and gratitude for you.

Ngā mihi

Mrs Fugmann
Acting Principal
