We have just completed Assessment Week here at the College. This is the crucial period of fine tuning for external assessments and completion of as much as possible for internal assessments. So what did we learn as teachers and students over this time? With a total of 4 teaching weeks left for seniors this was the opportunity to experience external exam pressure by sitting Achievement Standards in the auditorium under an exam-like scenario. Students learn to cope with the pressure and now know what to expect so they can prepare better. They now know they have to write a lot and think a lot for an extended period of time to achieve. It is similar to what an athlete experiences training for their big game or final race - training and preparing the brain and body to be at their best for the exam finals. Now you know what is expected. Keep the 'training' up.
- They have learned how much time is needed to complete their Internal Assessments.
- They have now experienced external standards under exam conditions.
- They now know that more preparation time is needed for externals, and that time starts now.
The College offers:
- Tutorials after school regularly for preparation and completion
- Subway Study Break classes in week one of the upcoming study break (Term 3 'holiday')
- Access to websites we know are useful to help explain and clarify content for the exams
- A study timetable planner for the next few weeks so students can plan their time and balance their commitments over the weeks ahead.
"Proper planning promotes good performance."
