This evening we will be hosting the Senior Night of the Ball (SNOB) As in previous years, the students will be being dropped off from 7:30pm at the school hall via the service entrance. Typically this is quite a spectacle and we do encourage members of our community to come along to see the student arrive. I look forward to positive and enjoyable evening for our students and their guests.
Attendance Since the start of the year I have reinforced the importance of attendance at school and also shared that the school expects students to have a positive attendance record in order to represent the school in sport and cultural activities. This has included the opportunity for senior students to attend the SNOB event tonight.
This week I have received an email from the Education Review Office (ERO) with a request that the following information and link to a survey be shared with whanau to gather feedback on school attendance.
Researchers at the Education Review Office (ERO) are doing some research about school attendance. They want to hear your thoughts about what makes a difference. Please help by clicking on this survey link: Parent and Whānau survey A similar survey is also being sent to students who ERO have requested feedback from.
Class Act Nominations This week I am proud to announce the school nominations as recipients of the Class Act award. This awards recognises individuals students achievements both academic, cultural and sporting as well as their future potential. The 2025 Class Act recipients are: Annaliese Bisset and Bri Ware.
Relief teaching As we move into the cooler weather we are seeing an increase in absences for both students and staff. Last year, through the newsletter, we asked for qualified teachers to contact the school if they were interested in doing any relief work. Once again we are asking our community if there are any teachers who would be interested in relief teaching hours at South Otago High School. The Board of Trustees are willing to assist with re-certification costs for teachers whose certification/registration may have lapsed.
If you, or anyone you know, is interested in relief teaching work please do contact the school to discuss the opportunities available.
Finally It is just a few hours now until the SNOB starts. I look forward welcoming students to the event and I expect that they will have a great memorable night.
Have a good weekend.
