Thursday 21st September | Term 3 Week 10 |
Kia ora e te whānau and welcome to the last week of term. Firstly, our thoughts are with those who had to evacuate due to the fire. We are so thankful for those in our community who have been part of the team fighting it. We hope the damage has been minimal and that those who were evacuated manage to return home safely, soon.
This week saw a final wrap-up of our ski and snowboard season. Last Friday, there was a lovely celebration of our ākonga who achieved placings at the Ōhau Races. It was so nice to see the way everyone supported each other, and celebrated everyone's success so authentically. It was particularly great to see the support of the Ōhau instructors who were full of praise, especially for those who had their first season up the slopes. I hope everyone who participated this season sees the huge progress they have made, and that our beginners are back for more next year. Our final snow event was the Cardrona Races, held on Tuesday, for our ākonga up to Year 8. We achieved some fabulous success, coming third in the Upper Clutha group and fourth overall. We have some phenomenal up-and-coming skiers and snowboarders within our kura.
If you haven't already seen the amazing Science Fair projects, completed by individuals and classes, I would recommend you come and check them out! They are currently on display in our entry corridor. There was such a range of different topics chosen, and a heap of learning done by everyone involved. I think a number of us will be ensuring we really wash our hands well, after seeing what happens to bread if we touch it with dirty hands.
On Wednesday we held our 'Crazy Hair Day', organised by our Head Students to raise money for the Child Cancer Foundation. The level of creativity was mind-blowing, with a range of unicorns, cupcakes, spiders, a rainbow of different colours and even an octopus on display. Thanks to everyone for getting behind such a great cause.
Congratulations to Ralph Henderson who is the newly elected Board of Trustees Student Representative for 2024. I am sure Ralph will be an outstanding representative and a great voice for our young people. Congratulations too, to the four others who bravely nominated themselves for this role, and for having the confidence to speak in our senior assembly. It is great to be so willing to get involved in the school.
Finally, we hope to see you at our end-of-term-assemblies tomorrow, as we gather to celebrate the range of successes our rangatahi have achieved throughout a busy term. Our Junior Assembly begins at 1pm, and our Middle/Senior one begins at 2pm in the Events Centre.
Have a safe and enjoyable break. We have a busy term four ahead, especially for our Senior students as they have a short period of time in class before their exams. This break is a good chance to recharge batteries, but also for our Senior students to really get into a good study habit.
Waiho i te toipoto, kaua i te toiroa. Let us keep close together, not wide apart.
Noho ora mai, Charlotte Saunders Acting Principal
