Thursday 21st March | Term 1 Week 8

Kia ora e te whānau,

I hope everyone is having a fantastic week?

I’ve had the pleasure of spending a couple of days this week as the teacher in charge at Maadi; it has been an absolute privilege to support these young people as they find success and personal bests at a national level. I wish them all the best for the remainder of their competition and encourage our school community to head down to the lake on Friday and Saturday to support them on the finals days. See you there!

Students have also been representing our school at Aoraki Athletics and the North Otago Swimming Competition. As I write this, I am just about to head to Timaru to cheer on our senior athletes. I hope that all our competitors have fantastic days and enjoy their experiences. By the time this newsletter is sent, there should be further information regarding results to share.

NZEI (the Primary Teacher’s Union) has notified us of a Paid Union Meeting that is compulsory for all members to attend. We have negotiated an online meeting to minimise our closure time. On Thursday, April 4th, the school will close for Year 1-6 students at 12.30 pm. Please be ready to collect your child. If your child usually rides the bus home, we can provide supervision for the afternoon, and then your child can use the bus at the usual time. If you require your child to be supervised from 12.30 pm until 3.05 pm on Thursday, April 4th, please call the main office on (03) 435 0650 to ensure your child is on our supervision list. This will allow us to plan for staffing the supervision.

Staff members have asked me to put out two reminders to whānau:
Communication
Please use our school methods of communication to obtain information about the school day/events, etc. An article outlining these methods is in this newsletter. Please do not use staff members' personal social media to communicate. By using the endorsed school methods, you will receive more consistent information from a centralised source. Thanks for your understanding.

PE uniform for students in Years 7-13

If your child participates in PE classes or House Sports, the uniform requirement is outlined on our school website here. Please ensure your child has access to a school PE uniform top, plain black bottom half (shorts, sports tights, etc), and suitable sports shoes. We have plenty of PE Uniform tops in our second-hand store if you do not already have one.

And finally, here are some ‘heads-up’ items for the coming week:

  • Defence Force Visit for Seniors - Friday 22nd March
  • Home and School AGM - Monday 25th March at 7pm
  • M2 Camp and Y11-13 Mentoring Week - Monday 25th March to Thursday 28th March
  • Good Friday - 29th March (school is closed for Easter until Wednesday, 3rd April)

He waka eke noa,
Kate Staniford

Whānau-Kaiako Communication

A reminder that NO CONTACT should be made to school staff via their personal social media accounts.

There are a number of different ways that whānau can communicate with us, and it is important caregivers know the correct channels so your questions, queries, and problems can be dealt with accordingly.

Yearbook Archives - Can You Help?

We are busy making the Twizel Area School archives available digitally on our website. This includes yearbooks, photos and newsletters, and will hopefully be finished later this year.

If you have a copy of the 2006 or 2007 yearbooks, we would love to borrow it from you to scan into our records. These years seem to have gone missing!

You can email [email protected] or call the school office.
