Thursday 11th May 2023 | Term 2 Week 3 |
Kia ora e te whānau,
I hope this newsletter finds you well. As always, a lot is happening at school, and I am excited to share some updates with you.
Firstly, thank you to Room 13 for their fantastic persuasive writing letters about Pets at School. I received them late last week and was thoroughly impressed by the thought and effort put into them. I hope the students were happy with my response, and I look forward to seeing their further plans.
Congratulations to the awesome readers in the Primary School. They have kept me busy with smelly stickers over the last week, and I am impressed with their progress. The daily reading routines make all the difference for our younger learners.
In other news, the Ministry of Education is implementing new attendance measures across all New Zealand schools as of the start of Term 2, 2023. This includes collecting data directly from our school’s Student Management System for intervention if a learner has five or more unjustified absence days in a term (e.g. dropping below the ‘Regular Attendance’ status of 90%). We are taking steps to improve our attendance records across the school, which, as you may know, led to some errors in our certificates at assemblies. These will be rectified as soon as possible. If you notice an error in your child’s attendance record, please contact their teacher(s) directly.
A quick ‘heads-up’ regarding the ongoing industrial action for teachers: - M3 is home rostered next week on Tuesday, May 16th
- M4 is home rostered next week on Wednesday, May 17th
Finally, I wish our 30 students who have headed off to the Southern Area Schools Tournament in Lawrence all the best. I am there today, cheering them on, and I know they will make us proud.
Thank you for your ongoing support and involvement in our school community.
He waka eke noa,
Kate Staniford Tumuaki | Principal
