Thursday 25th May 2023 | Term 2 Week 5

Kia ora e te whānau,

We hope this newsletter finds you well as we approach the colder months.

Last week, we were lucky enough to celebrate Bully Free Week at Twizel Area School. This week provided our students and staff with an excellent opportunity to unite and reaffirm our commitment to creating a safe and inclusive environment. Throughout the week, there were various activities, including WAKA Bingo, Fill your Bucket appreciation, a colouring competition and the creation of a kindness quilt. Thank you to our Middle School students who supported our younger students in creating the quilt as a beautiful act of awhinataka. Congratulations to the competition winners and fish and chip lunch recipients. Thank you to Sarah Henderson, who continues to complete our wall of hands - look at it as you walk along our corridors; it’s amazing!

M4 are continuing their work readiness course with Hannah Beer. Their experiences are wonderful! Thank you to the hosting businesses - Top Hut and The Twizel Op Shop (so far), you’re certainly bringing life to this programme. The sessions will cover a range of essential skills, such as workplace etiquette and professional communication. We believe that empowering our students with these skills will enhance their prospects for employment and contribute to their overall success beyond school. The students are looking forward to two more weeks of the programme.

We are pleased to inform you that the industrial action previously planned by the teachers' union has been temporarily cancelled. As a result, there will be no disruption to the school schedule up to May 31st, including previously notified home rostering days. We appreciate the understanding and support of our staff during this time.

Important Dates:

  • Formal: Friday, 26th May
  • Work Readiness Session 5: Monday, May 29th

Last, but not least, we're excited to announce our upcoming Sporting Raffle, an initiative aimed at raising funds to support various sporting opportunities and to acquire essential equipment for our school sport programmes. Look out for more information later in the newsletter.

We encourage you to stay connected with Twizel Area School through our website, social media, and regular communication channels.

He waka eke noa,

Kate Staniford

A Reminder for Year 7 - 11 Students...

Next Wednesday (weather dependent), Year 7-11 students are visiting a local stream and being shown our local endemic small fish species, some of which are endangered.

Dean Nelson from DOC is trapping the fish and talking to the students. They will need to bring sturdy footwear to walk across a muddy paddock; warm jacket and trousers would be good if the weather is cold.

Any questions, please see Ms Arkless before Wednesday.
