Tēnā koutou, e te whānau o Mount Albert Grammar School.
A warm welcome back to the 2025 school year with special greetings to families, students and staff new to the MAGS community this year. It has been a busy few days for senior students as they confirm academic courses for the upcoming year. Our 2024 NCEA results show outstanding achievement across the senior school and will be reported on more fully in the near future. Congratulations to students who realised their academic goals – and it is now the time for everyone to reset academic aspirations for the year ahead.
Yesterday our new staff gathered in Te Puna Wānanga as part of their induction process into MAGS, and later enjoyed lunch in the W.O.H. Gibbs Room. We are delighted with the quality of staff joining us this year and it was special to bring them through our own whare for the first time. Parents and students will notice changes to accessing the Aquatic Centre, with a dedicated accessway off Alberton Avenue now in place. The construction of this accessway is welcomed and will increase the safety of students arriving and departing from school each day. There is much anticipation ahead of the arrival of students into school next week. Our young women will be front and centre as we celebrate 25 Years of Girls at MAGS. We’re ready to go! And we look forward to our 104th year of serving the young people of Mount Albert! Enjoy the Anniversary Weekend. Patrick Drumm Headmaster |

With students back at school next week, staff have been busy preparing for the school year ahead. Yesterday, new teachers to MAGS received an official welcome with a whakatau in the Te Puna Wānanga. Following that, they spent the day in orientation sessions so they could hit the ground running next week. Next Tuesday, new staff will have the chance to introduce themselves to their colleagues as all staff gather in the W.O.H Gibbs Room for a welcome and overview of plans for the year ahead. |

Parents should have received a letter from Associate Principal Jo Williams this week with important back-to-school information. If you can't see it in your inbox, please check your spam/junk folder. You can read the letter here The Starting at MAGS 2025 booklet, which was sent out in early December, also has comprehensive information to help students make a smooth start to the year. You can download it here Parents and students should also subscribe to the MAGS App, so they can choose groups about which to receive Alert Notifications. General alerts and notifications are also sent out on the app. Parents can instantly access Daily Notices, the Kamar portal, teachers’ contact details, and notify the School if your child is absent. When notifying absences, you need to load your child’s Student ID Number. You should only need to do this once, and this helps us record absences more easily. Parents and students can check the School Calendar and sync chosen events with your own Calendar. There are links to Sports, Maps, Newsletters and more … You can find out more about the MAGS App here
