Kia Ora Tatou

It has been a relatively quiet week this week which has been great to support students to settle with their learning. On Thursday we did have a non uniform day with funds raised going to support communities who have been impacted by Cyclone Gabrielle. Thank you to all whanau who donated towards this cause.

School Athletics Sports
Sadly the weather did not play its part to enable us to run our athletics sports. I know that many who work in the rural sector will have appreciated the rain and it is good to see some of the paddocks starting to turn green already. We are expecting to hold the Athletics on Monday 27 February.

Once again, please do ensure that your child does attend for the day. We ask all students to participate in the event. For those that are not able to compete we do need students to assist with marshalling, measuring, time keeping and recording results. Participation, in what ever form, does contribute towards the award of the graduate certificate at the end of the year.

Covid cases
This week we have had a small number of confirmed covid cases reported to school this last week. I would like to remind whanau that if tamariki are feeling unwell they should stay at home. If they have covid symptoms please do a test. The school does have some test kits available for whanau.

If there is a confirmed case in the household the case is required to self isolate for 7 days with the day of the test result being Day Zero. House hold contacts are required to test daily for the next 5 days and be checking for symptoms following the fifth day.

Finally
This week a group of Y10 students with Mr Matsas are on a voyage onboard the Spirit of New Zealand. It has been interesting watching the track log as the ship has sailed round the Hauraki Gulf and some of the updates from the ship’s captain. The students are due to return on Sunday and I am sure that they will have great tales to tell.
