Kia ora e te whānau,
I’m excited to share some wonderful news with you about the amazing accomplishments of our students in recent weeks.
Firstly, we congratulate our rowing crew for their outstanding performance at the South Island Secondary Schools Regatta. Our students showed incredible teamwork, determination, and perseverance, and we are extremely proud of them for their achievements. A special mention to our medallists at this regatta: Kobe Narruhn (Gold), Ralph Henderson (Gold), Kiara Thyne (Gold and Silver), Sadie Mason (Gold and Silver), Hazel Henderson (Silver), Lucia Yates (Silver) and Poppy Staniford (Silver). In this article from Stuff, you can read more about South Canterbury's successes at the regatta. Plans are underway to assist the crew in achieving their next goal of Maadi - thank you to everyone in our community that has come together to make this opportunity a likely reality.
Further congratulations to Mackenzie Dunnicliff who has been selected for a lead role in School of Rock through Musical Theatre, Oamaru. A clear recognition of Mackenzie’s skills and experience musically and on the stage. Ka pai!
We would also like to congratulate the students selected for the U15 North Otago Basketball Squad. Your hard work and dedication have paid off, and we know you will represent our school with pride and enthusiasm. The selected students are Wade Smith and Kobe Narruhn.
At the time of writing, we eagerly await the results of the North Otago Swimming and Aoraki Athletics competitions. We will keep you informed as soon as the information becomes available. Congratulations to all the participants who met the selection criteria for their efforts and achievements.
Our students in Years 1-8 are enjoying the Life Education truck visit, particularly relishing the opportunity to chat with Harold. In addition, our students in Year 5 and above were treated to an Ugly Shakespeare performance earlier this week, and reports say they thoroughly enjoyed it.
We are pleased to report that the excited M3 class have set off for their tramp this week; M2 is planning to depart in Week 8.
Isn’t it fantastic to see so many activities available this year, following the restrictions and cancellations of the past few years?
Please note that there will be a Jumbo Day tomorrow, Friday, 17th March, which means NO SCHOOL for students in Years 1-12. Teachers and Year 13 students travel to Cromwell for the event shared across our Southern Area Schools. Teachers, support staff and administration staff, have a day of training and collaboration planned; the Year 13 students will participate in a Leadership Day. Thank you to our Kāhui Ako Within School Teachers (Alison Holden and Anneke Smit) for organising this day.
Finally, Year 11-13 Parents should note that mentors will meet with students next week to assist in setting SMART goals for the year; we will report back to parents on these goals at the end of the term. This is a crucial step in helping our students achieve their full potential across the year.
Thank you for your ongoing support and encouragement! He waka eke noa.
