Cross Country

The weather provided an amazing afternoon for our cross country event. While it appeared to me that Sommerville were dominating the event, Sutherland narrowly took out the victory so congratulations to them. This was a great turn out with lots of fun in the colour run led with enthusiasm by our student council making sure that everyone who wanted it got a good coating.

School is a busy place!

As I reflect this week its amazing what we fit into a week. With Year 12 having a day at Telford to learn about Road Safety. Not just the aspects we may immediately think of in terms of safe braking distances and following licences but also how roads can be made safer through their design and what makes a car safe. Year 13 History students had a fabulous time in Arrowtown with another group of Y13’s having an adventurous time in Outdoor Education. Thanks to the teachers who work hard, go the extra mile and offer these options.

Planning for 2025

As we are approaching mid-way through term 3 the planning has started for 2025. This week we held a successful NCEA night specifically for our Y10 students. I have also been into their class to discuss their options for 2025. Next week I will be talking with Year 11 and Year 12, and emailing students and parents the course book, for the subject choices they will be making too. From there option choices will be due in two weeks time. So its time to consider how you can be best prepared for the future. Generally this is by working hard and achieving your own level of personal excellence this year so you have a good foundation to build on for the future.

And finally

Its great to see our culture and diversity being celebrated. A big well done to our Samoan students who took part in the Otago Voices Pasifika Speech Festival with some great speeches with fantastic results. And our recent celebration of Cook Island language week with costumes, food and cultural dress.
