Kia ora koutou,
We are very proud of the way our students have handled themselves this term. Our senior leaders have been busy organising events for the whole school and it is just great to see the students participating and having fun.
It has been lovely to see you all coming in for the whaanau hui for your senior students. This is such an important time for our seniors. We need to be making plans together now so that there are no regrets for the students at the end of the year. Some students will be heading off to University, others straight to jobs and some will be considering other courses. If some of you are unsure about a pathway for your student then please remember that we have support here at school for you. Sarah Hamilton is a great contact for you and your student. Sarah is our Director of Pathways and is always keen to help you look at different options.
Our Pasifika dance groups are representing us at a competition on Saturday. They look so incredibly beautiful in their costumes. We are lucky that they are doing a practice for the whole school to see on Friday afternoon.
I wish you all a very happy holiday.
Ngā mihi,
Barbara Cavanagh Tumuaki - Principal
NCEA Updates & Reminders
NCEA internal assessment conditions are based on NZQA guidelines and the discretion of each Learning Area. Students may complete assessments under a range of conditions but in all cases, students must confirm the work is their own. Breaches of the rules, such as plagiarism, impersonation, dishonesty, collusion, or using AI tools like ChatGPT to write assessments, will be investigated by the Principal’s Nominee. Proven breaches result in a ‘Not Achieved’ grade.
Late or missed assessments without a valid reason will not be accepted. Family holidays are not considered a valid reason. Students must request extensions at least three days before the due date using the official form. If your child needs an extension for a valid reason, they must contact the Principal’s Nominee, Whaea Monika Bali, at [email protected]. More detailed information about assessment procedures, extensions, breaches of rules, appeals, and resubmissions is available in the NCEA Student Handbook.
🔔 Coming up next term: Most Year 11 students and some Year 9 and Year 10 students will be sitting the NCEA Literacy and Numeracy co-requisite assessments. More information will be sent to parents/caregivers early next term.
Year 9 & 10 Poetry
Over the last term the Year 9s and 10s have been working on a poetry unit in English, learning about language features, structure and analysing different types of poetry. Below are examples from the Year 9 and 10 cohort of their own pieces of poetry that they have carefully crafted over the last week and a half. Threads of memories Walking from building to building A cool bunch of classmates who quickly became family With a bond that will last forever Surrounded with endless laughter Who wouldn't want that ? Never knowing i would be surrounded by awesome people Creating memories we will hold forever Time speeding up Months already past I hope we get a sequel Who would have known our bond would be as strong as rope Never wanting it to tear We hold on to every strand not letting go of any memories Grateful for the people who've made school worth coming We laugh We fight Debates and bickering keeping us together An unbreakable bond As the bell rings Our hearts will always be close Maybe in the future we can look back and laugh at these days we used to dread Day by day We don't know what the future holds May our bond get stronger and always grow Eventually We will go our separate ways but the good times will always last Maybe we'll reunite Maybe we won't Forever grateful for the good year with you

Angel Dust Think of little lilies, lovely everywhere you look, Fairies giggle and flutter, frantically— Feeling happy, their white feathers flow Through pearly gates, where your dreams await. Longing, despair, pain, and grief disappear. It’s clear— All year round, you glow like the sun, One by one, they run, Feeling like home. They start singing and dancing, Catching up on life, The recognizable scent of wood, Leaves falling like the breeze— Calm and swift, light and comforting, Like angels’ hugs. Angel dust sparkles in the sky, Like my love of nature, and nurture, Coexisting peacefully together. Kids laugh and play all day, Without a worry or thought crossing their minds. Love isn’t just a feeling, It’s an action of comfort. I know I’m young, You might say I’ve never felt love before— And you’re right. But I’ve seen it all around me, And I feel glee. I’m... I’m sorry, We’re free.
