Newsletter Issue 9

Easter is a time of celebration, new beginnings and reflection as we go forward in many faiths in this country.

Some of our many celebrations this term have been;

  • NCEA results at or above National Averages.
  • Achievers Assembly celebration at school for whānau and families.
  • Year 9 Parent Hui, Yr 10-13 Parent Report Hui evenings.
  • School inter-sport and cultural competitions and events are celebrated such as Kapa haka and Polyfest.
  • 400 new Year 9 students, families and whānau starting so positively with our college.

These have been linked to our reflections such as our ANZAC commemoration led by our Services Academies, and our curriculum-wide ongoing review to ensure our courses adjust from the previous year.
And of course new beginnings or goal setting for our senior and junior students as they consider their weekly reports and end of term reports on what they need to do in term 2.

The Easter Break allows everyone to pause and take that breath. I want to thank our staff, Teachers, Administration staff and Teacher Aides who have worked tirelessly this term to ensure that our students, family and whānau had a great reconnection with Waitākere College. Thank you.
To our students, families and whānau, thank you for your commitment to the College and continued support for learning ensuring our students can be better than before. (BTB)
While I am on sabbatical for term 2 I am reassured that Olivia Fugmann, as Acting Principal, will lead the College well with her enthusiasm and energy.

Happy Easter and God Bless.

Mark P Shanahan
