Ensuring We Can Be the Best We Can Be |
The College is now in full recruitment mode for teachers for 2025 and beyond. We are experiencing significant growth, with more in-zone families choosing to enroll their children at Waitākere College. As a result, we have been running a ballot for out-of-zone students who wish to attend Waitākere College for the past 5 years to ensure that all our in-zone students can be accommodated. As our student population grows, so does the demand for enthusiastic and skilled teachers. New Zealand continues to face a chronic shortage of locally trained secondary school teachers. We are training too few teachers and losing many to overseas recruitment. I have been meeting with many promising candidates and working diligently to select the best and brightest teachers to ensure the best outcomes for our students.
I recently spent two days in Fiji meeting successful, experienced NZ registered teachers who are eager to make a positive impact on our students here. We recruit from a wide geographical area and are committed to retaining our teachers. I am optimistic that our current and future teachers are dedicated to our keypillar of maintaining high professional standards and have high expectations for our tamariki to achieve their best.
