Mangakōtukutuku College News

From the Principal

This is my last newsletter for Mangakotukutuku College. It has been a great pleasure to be here in this wonderful school and wonderful community.
I have enjoyed being part of the school’s life for this short time. Your students are the best and I can assure you that the teachers here are determined to make a great school for them.
There is so much to be proud of here. The students ran an assembly to say  farewell yesterday. What it showed me was that our head students are inspirational. Our Kapa Haka, Pasfika and Indian performers are simply outstanding and that our whole school knows how to behave in that environment.

I wish your new principal, Jim Hay-Mckenzie, well in his journey with you.

From the Board of Trustees

The Board of Mangakōtukutuku College wishes to express its deepest gratitude and warmest farewell to Barbara Cavanagh as her time leading our kura comes to a close. Over the past 12 months, she has guided our school through a period of significant challenge and transition with integrity, strength, and unwavering commitment.
Stepping into the acting principal role at a time of uncertainty is no small task, yet Barbara did so with calm assurance, strategic insight, and a strong sense of care for both students and staff. Under her leadership, our school community remained focused on student achievement, wellbeing, and the values that underpin Mangakōtukutuku College. Barbara brought people together, made tough decisions with thoughtfulness, and always kept the best interests of our ākonga at heart.
We have greatly valued her clear communication, collaborative approach, and vision for progress. The positive impact she has made will be felt long after her departure. We wish Barbara all the very best in her future endeavours and hope to see her back at Mangakōtukutuku College again in the years to come.
We look forward to welcoming Jim Hayes-McKenzie and his family into our school community with a pōwhiri on the first day of next term. Please be sure to read the information in this newsletter about standing for the board in the upcoming elections.
We wish all of our hard working staff a well deserved break over the school holiday period.

NZQA Update

Results for the recent Literacy Reading Common Assessment Activity (CAA) are now available. You can view your child’s results on the KAMAR portal/ SchoolBridge. If you have any questions or would like to discuss the results, please don’t hesitate to get in touch with your child’s Learning Facilitator.

If you have questions about the results or how NCEA works, check out our NCEA 101 presentation—it has all the key information you need to understand how the NCEA system works and what it means for your child.

NZFS Course

This term we ran our first Level 2 Foundation Skills Course in collaboration with the GET Group. The course was aimed at preparing students for work or further study. All students passed and are now able to move on to tertiary study, an apprenticeship or full time employment. We are so proud of this group of students. They have displayed commitment, resilience and self- management.

Special thanks go to Sarah Hamilton (our Director of Pathways) and Teresa Bayly (Pathways Teacher) for their support and commitment to helping these students find success.

EPIC Resources Training for Year 12 English

Last week, our librarian conducted a training session for the Year 12 English classes on how to effectively access and use the EPIC resources. Students learned how to navigate the platform and explore a wide range of reliable online resources. The session aimed to build students’ confidence in locating credible sources to support their studies.
