Principal's report

Kia ora koutou e te whānau

We’ve reached the halfway point of Term 3, and it’s great to see our ākonga learning with purpose and direction here at Mangakōtukutuku!

Just a couple of reminders about our expectations:
Uniform: Students should be in full school uniform each day. If you’re experiencing any issues with uniform, please don’t hesitate to contact the school.
Attendance: Students are expected to attend all their classes each day. If this is proving difficult, please reach out—we’re here to support.

Important Dates:
Monday 18 August – Curriculum Day:
School will be closed for instruction as staff engage in curriculum planning. This day allows our teachers to design learning that is responsive and relevant to your tamariki. All staff will be onsite, with SLT leading the planning sessions.
Wednesday 20 August – PPTA Strike:
School will be closed due to industrial action involving most of our teaching staff. We appreciate your understanding and will keep you updated as needed.
Thursday 21 August – Open Day at 4.00pm (School Hall):
We’re welcoming prospective students and whānau to visit our kura. If you know anyone considering Mangakōtukutuku College, please encourage them to come along to this afternoon presentation.

With five weeks left in the term, please continue to talk with your tamariki about their learning. If you have any questions or concerns, feel free to contact me directly at the school.

A Night in Hollywood – MKT’s First School Ball 2 August 2025

"A Night in Hollywood" was a truly successful and memorable evening for our Year 12 and 13 students as they celebrated their very first MKT School Ball. Students arrived in style, walking the red carpet into a beautifully decorated hall that set the scene for a VIP experience.
The food was delicious, and the surprise churros dessert—redeemed with a special VIP token—added an extra touch of excitement to the night. Students danced the night away, and their behaviour throughout the evening was outstanding.
Staff also looked stunning and played a key role in making the event a success. We are incredibly grateful for everyone’s support in bringing this special night to life.
Thank you to all who helped make our first School Ball one to remember!

MKT Library

Celebrating the SLANZA Aotearoa School Library Week
It was wonderful to see so many students taking part in our School Library Week activities.
Many students voted for their favourite books in the Most Popular Book vote, and they enjoyed sharing their favourite titles.
Students also showed their creatively by designing their own bookmarks, with a fantastic variety of designs on display. We also appreciated welcoming students from Patricia Avenue School, who joined us for the bookmark-making activity and had a great time as well. Thank you to everyone who took part.
