Kia ora koutou,
We had a wonderful assembly last week where we congratulated all of our students who had attended 100% of the time. Congratulations to them. There is no doubt that attendance at school improves the performance of students - no doubt at all. SO encourage your students to get to class on time and be ready to work. Just like you we want all our students to do well so that they get the very best opportunities when they leave school.
Of course we are disappointed with the behaviour of some of our students last Friday. I understand that some of you are upset about that. We have reminded the students at assemblies that they all have a responsibility to act sensibly and follow the instructions of the teachers when such behaviour occurs. We are fortunate at this school to have a very strong relationship with the local police. We felt like we handled the situation really well. If you have any concerns let us know. We want to do the best by all our students and to keep them safe.
We are looking forward to meeting the whanau of our senior students. We are inviting you to come with your students to discuss how they are progressing this year and what their needs are for moving forward. The meetings will be 20 minutes long and you will have the opportunity to make some serious and meaningful plans with your students. Every student will have a meeting so if you are unable to come yourselves, your student can choose a teacher or another adult that you approve to support them.
Those of you who have senior students it is important to keep checking with them. Have they got assessments due? Are they completing all their assessments? What some parents are doing is putting up a list of assessments on a board at home so that the students can check off when they have completed each one. That may be something that you would like to do. We are monitoring the students closely here at school too.
The head students are doing a wonderful job of organising special days, running assemblies and being great role models. They are wonderful young people and we are very proud of them.
Have a wonderful week.

Year 12 and 13 Outdoor EducationStudents in the Year 12 and 13 Outdoor Education programme recently undertook the challenging ascent to the summit of Pirongia Mountain. Demonstrating outstanding teamwork, perseverance, and resilience, they supported one another throughout the journey and successfully reached the summit. This experience provided valuable opportunities for personal growth, leadership, and the development of key outdoor skills. Congratulations to all involved on this impressive achievement.

VolleyballMangakōtukutuku Senior Girls Regional Team (Division 1)
Since term 4 of 2024, our journey has been something special. We started off with a couple of trial sessions—maybe two or three—before I finally put together our Mangakōtukutuku College Senior Girls Volleyball team. Those early days were raw, but they set the stage for everything that came next. Over the off season, we pushed hard in training and had plenty of honest team talks, building the trust we needed to have each other’s backs, especially when someone was struggling. By the time the regional tournament rolled around, every bit of that hard work shone through. We played some tough matches that really pushed us to improve, and along the way, we grew not only as players but also as a tight-knit team. It's amazing to see how far we've come, both in our skills and in the way we support one another every step of the way.
