Mangakōtukutuku College News

From the Principal

Kia ora koutou,
Welcome to Term 3.
How exciting it was in the holidays to see such huge success for Mangakōtukutuku College.
First of all our very own head boy Nydius Wilson was the guest speaker at the ANZAC service. What a proud moment for our college. Nydius spoke with confidence and poise. He touched the hearts of many of the veterans there and afterwards he received many congratulations and handshakes. The mayor then invited Nydius and our other head students to a lunch to celebrate the event.

Tama Potaka (our local Member of Parliament) has invited Nydius to represent him in the Youth Parliament which is held every year. This is a great honour for Nydius and the school.

Secondly our Pasifika students did extraordinarily well at the local championships. Take a look at the beautiful pictures of our beautiful students.Congratulations to the teachers who worked hard with the groups to achieve so highly. Whaea Elsie and Whaea Kelera are superstars.

There are some  big events happening in this term. The Common Assessment in Literacy and Numeracy for all year 11s will take place in Week 5.
Next week we have Pink Shirt Day, the school cross country is coming up. This is a shorter 9 week term but there is plenty happening.

Nga mihi,
Barbara

Pink Shirt Day

Pink Shirt Day 2025, Mangakōtukutuku Collage is joining the movement on Pink Shirt Day .
Run by the Mental Health Foundation, Pink Shirt Day is the day Aotearoa New Zealand comes together to take a stand against bullying.
In Aotearoa, bullying happens in the workplace, online, at kura or school, and in the community.
Did you know that:
• one in five workers feel bullied at work
• Aotearoa has the third highest rate of school bullying out of 36 OECD countries
• people who are bullied are far more likely to experience mental health issues.

Pink Shirt Day works to reduce bullying by celebrating diversity in all its forms and supporting schools, workplaces and communities to be safe, supportive, welcoming and inclusive for everyone.
By choosing compassion and standing up for each other, we can reduce bullying in Aotearoa and foster spaces where everyone feels they belong.
To celebrate this important  Kaupapa students will be able to wear pink to school on Friday 16 May the gold coin donation to be handed into their first period teacher, this will be fundraising to support Pink Shirt Day .
Funds raised on Pink Shirt Day support the Mental Health Foundation’s initiatives that reduce bullying and its harmful effects.
Kōrero Mai, Kōrero Atu, Mauri Tū, Mauri Ora – Speak up, Stand Together, Stop Bullying! Official Pink Shirts are available at Cotton On but are not necessary to support the day.
