Principal's Message

Welcome back to the start of a bright new year!

As we step into 2025, we are excited to embrace our theme for the year: Opportunity.

This theme is central to everything we do at Wesley College and is a reminder that every moment presents a chance to grow, learn, and discover something new.

What Does Opportunity Mean for Us?
Opportunity is more than just a word; it’s a mindset. It’s about recognizing the potential in every challenge, the possibility in every encounter, and the doors that can open with each decision we make. Whether it’s academic achievement, personal growth, or building relationships, 2025 is about seizing the opportunities before us.

Ultimately it is up to students to seize these opportunities and we encourage whanau to continually ask your children, ‘are you making the most of everything on offer at school?’.

Academic Opportunities
In the classroom, we’ll continue to focus on creating an environment where all students can reach their potential. Teachers will be encouraging students to challenge themselves, take risks in their learning, and embrace a growth mindset.

Students should also take all the opportunities such as extra tuition provided by teachers like work shops and catch ups, and Night School in the evening.

Please note - Day students are welcome to attend night school.

Personal Growth and Development
Our commitment to opportunity extends beyond academics. We know that the school years are a crucial time for developing character, confidence, and resilience. This year, we will continue to offer programs and support that help students build essential life skills. Music and Culture, Sports and activities, Duke of Ed and Spirit of Adventure – the list is endless.

Through various leadership roles such as student council, cultural groups, sports, and class activities, students will have the chance to develop their voices and take on new challenges.

Building a Stronger, Safer School Community
As a smaller, Methodist, boarding school, we also see opportunity to foster strong connections within our school community. This year, we will continue to host events that bring together students, staff, and families.

Our Safeguarding programme will continue to grow and there will be many opportunities to connect, share experiences, and work together to create an inclusive, supportive environment for everyone.

Embrace the Opportunity
As we embark on this exciting year, we encourage all members of our school community to reflect on the opportunities available to them. Start with the basics of what you have as opposed to what you don’t have – you are at a school where there is committed staff, you are well fed, you have so many opportunities in front of you. What new skills do you want to learn? What challenges do you want to overcome? What goals do you want to set for yourself?

We believe that opportunity is limitless and that every student has the potential to achieve great things. Let’s make 2025 a year of discovery, growth, and achievement!

Wishing you all an inspiring and successful year ahead.
