Term 4 - week 8
Kia ora, koutou.
We have just wrapped up our Year 9 activities week and our Year 10 camps/activities week. This week a number of our Year 10s have been out across the rohe in Hahei, Rotorua, Papamoa, Oamaru Hut, Wellington and Napier, local Mountain Biking day trips, as well as volunteering in our community and on our marae. The marae fence and planting looks great by the way! The Year 9s have experienced various activities including Paintball, Escape Room, Mini Putt, Bounce/Bowl, The Cave, Lake Taupō, Gaming, Arts and Crafts, Martial Arts, and street art. There will be some very tired students (and staff!) this weekend. A huge thank you to all the staff who helped put this amazing week together for our students. Aroha nui!
A group of Year 9 students have also been involved in the CACTUS program over the past six weeks. The program builds physical and mental conditioning, develops leadership, team building and personal responsibility. The program culminated in the ‘The Longest Day’ which wrapped up this afternoon. The Longest Day began yesterday afternoon with a run up Tauhara Maunga and finished with a fire engine pull up one of the streets at the back of our kura, cheered on by our other Year 9 students. By this afternoon, the students involved will have been engaged in a huge 24 hours of physical training, team building and leadership exercises. Well done to all the students, whanau, staff, and other volunteers who were involved in CACTUS!
Next week is the final week of secondary school for the year. Classes will resume as normal next week. However, we will be having some prize giving practices and ceremonies spread throughout the week. Our Effort and Industry prize giving is on Wednesday 6 December during period two, and our Junior Prize giving will take place at 10 a.m. on Friday 8 December in our hall. Students will be released from school following the prize giving. Whānau/parents/caregivers are all welcome to help us celebrate the achievements of our junior students in 2023.
Finally, as part of the government’s 100-day education plan, we have been informed that the banning of cell phones will go ahead. We have been advised that more formal communication will come before Christmas, however, we would like to try and get a survey to you next week to help us with our planning.
Ngā mihi
