Term 3 - Week 10

Tēnā koutou,

On Thursday we held our annual house haka competition.  It was a fiercely competitive event and I was proud to see the students and staff giving it their hall for their respective houses.  Tongariro House are the champions for 2024!  At the end of the competition we filmed a whole school rendition of our haka, Tu Tauira, and it was posted to our Facebook page last night.  As I write this newsletter, at 7:50 a.m. on Friday morning it had already been viewed 2,700 times!

We have had a school-wide uniform focus towards the end of this term, but I need to remind our school community that the older style straight skirt, which has not been available to be purchased officially for over six years, is no longer a part of our uniform.  The new straight-style skirt is currently listed on the Argyle website which can be viewed here. Please ensure that both skirt styles remain unaltered and are worn at the appropriate length at all times. As term four begins we will be completing a skirt audit, so please support us by ensuring your child(ren) has the correct school skirt for term four.

Our derived grade exam season has now concluded.  Our teachers will be marking these exams in preparation to provide feedback to students and whānau during our subject/teacher interviews held early next term - details below:
We will be holding two subject/teacher interview evenings in Term 4 on Wednesday 16th of October and Wednesday 23rd of October from 1:30pm - 6pm. To enable us to conduct subject/teacher interviews, classes will finish at 12:50pm on both days. To book an interview, simply log into the school website - www.taupocollege.ac.nz, and click login at the top of the homepage. Then click on the ‘Subject teacher interview’ icon. Please be aware you may be asked by "magic Link" to re-enter a new verification logon to access your booking and continue.

Check our other upcoming events for term four on the front page of our website https://www.taupocollege.ac.nz/.  The first half of term four includes a number of celebration events, so please mark these in your diary.

Lastly, on behalf of all the team here, thank you for your support over term three, and we look forward to seeing all the students back here on Monday 14 October.

Ngā mihi

Ben Claxton

Any business wanting to host a student for work experience?
Every year we are funded to put out 70 of our senior students on voluntary work experiences. From these work experiences come some amazing things….... confidence, a sense of belonging, the knowledge that they can add some value, learning about industries that they know very little about and sometimes the opportunity of potential employment. Everything that is learned on a work experience contributes to a future decision and learning work ready skills are vital for life beyond school. Do you know a business that would like to host a Taupo-nui-a-Tia College student for a 10-day work experience? If this is something that you would like to know more about, please contact Nicola Thomsen, Gateway Coordinator, e-mail: [email protected]
