During assemblies this week, we reinforced the government requirement for cell phones (and headphones/earbuds) to be off and away for the day.  Throughout term 1, we have been reminding students of the requirements.  We have also installed a landline dedicated to student use in our student centre.  Moving forward, if there are breaches of the requirement, phones will be removed and handed in to the office for whānau to pick up.  Below are the messages we re-communicated to the students:

  • Government requirement – phones are off and away for the day (including break times and before school).
  • Learning activities – if cell phones (and headphones or earbuds) are necessary for a learning activity then the teacher will let you know.
  • Field trips and camps – can be taken on EOTC activities but usage will be at the discretion of teachers and adult supervisors.
  • Break times and before school – phones (and headphones or earbuds) are not permitted to be used before school and during breaks.
  • Exemptions – only for health reasons or to help with learning support needs (all whānau have been emailed).  Applications from whānau need to be made to Deans.

Next week, during assemblies, we will be acknowledging students who have completed and handed in our Tia Values cards for demonstrating our values of Whakapono, Wero, and Manaakitanga around school.  A completed card requires 15 signatures from teachers.  Completed cards will go into draws for prizes during the assemblies next week.  We will have a major prize draw at the end of each term.

A further reminder - we have set some attendance expectations for our Year 12 and Year 13 students regarding ball attendance.  The key message for students is to ensure their unjustified attendance rate is as low as possible (5% or below from term 1, week seven through to halfway through term two).  Unjustified absences are considered truancy and include skipping a class, a half day or full day of classes for reasons our school deems are unjustified.  Examples of unjustified absence include staying home to study for a test, or to complete an assignment, or being ‘too tired to come to school’ etc.

Prior permission may be granted by the Principal for any special activity requiring an absence from school. The College prefers that family trips overseas are taken during the holiday breaks. Requests for absence for these should be made in writing directly to the Principal well in advance informing him of your intentions.  Ministry of Education definitions for justified or explainable absences are listed below.

  • Cultural or sporting representations at regional or higher level.
  • Illness (including hospitalisation).
  • Medical/dental appointments.
  • Bereavement.
  • Exceptional Family circumstances which may include travel for special occasions or may be sensitive and involve other agencies (application should be made to the Principal).
  • Vehicle breakdown / train / bus delay / car accident / natural disaster.
  • Citizenship Ceremony.
  • Ballet / music / speech exam.
  • Drivers Licence.
  • Accident before school which may include injury to an animal.

Other important panui are below:

New skirt
Starting from Term 2, 2024, we are excited to announce the addition of a straight-style skirt, alongside our current skirt, which is available for purchase via our website, as part of our school uniform options. With the introduction of this new skirt, the older style straight skirt, which has not been available for over six years, will no longer be a part of our uniform. From Term 3, 2024, it will be considered a non-uniform item.  The new straight-style skirt is not currently listed on the Argyle website.
We want to highlight that Year 12 students who currently own the older style straight skirt will be exempt from this change. We understand that requiring them to purchase a new skirt for just two terms would be unfair. We appreciate your understanding and cooperation as we strive to enhance and update our uniform options to better suit the preferences and needs of our students.

We would like to take this opportunity to say a huge THANK YOU to a couple of businesses in Taupo. They have once again this year made contributions to the Alternative Education Class -  supporting us with our class initiative to encourage students to attend school on a regular basis. Your help and kind donations are greatly appreciated by staff and students.

We are always looking for welcoming families to host our International students.
We have multiple students arriving. Some will stay till December and others are staying for a full year. We have boys and girls, and will always take your preference into account.
All those students are coming to NZ to experience the beauty of our country and the people who live here.
We are looking for homestays, who can be a second family for those students. Who will be able to engage them in their life. The students will need a room for themselves and of course they will have meals with you. The weekly allowance from January 2024 will be $290 per week. We can place two students from a different background in one family, if you can offer two rooms,  but won’t be able to place two students with the same nationality  in one family.
Before we will accept you, the school will visit you at your home and to talk about many practical aspects of hosting a student. We also will undertake a police vet check for core caregivers.
During the students stay you can rely on full 24/7 support from the school, to ensure a pleasant stay.
For more information, please get in touch with Aniek Lenoir on [email protected]
We will be able to send you an information package, and will follow up with a phone call.
