Matariki is our celebration of the Māori New Year when the constellation of Matariki is present in our dawn sky. New Zealand Aotearoa calls the cluster of stars Matariki. Matariki has an influence on us in the past, present, and future. Japan names this cluster of stars Subaru and the astronomers call it Pleiades. The Australians call it the Seven Sisters which influenced the seven peaks on the Sydney Opera House.
Take the time this weekend to remember those that we have lost in our family, whānau, and community since the last rising of Matariki - Matariki Ahunga Nui.
Take the time this weekend to gather with friends and family to celebrate the good things we have - Matariki Ahunga Nui.
Finally, take the opportunity to revisit and make plans for the promise of a new year - Matariki Manako Nui.
Have a great Matariki weekend and look forward to our final week of the term.
