Positive Opportunities

Term 2 starts fast and finishes fast, it is the term where many NCEA students load in their first achievement standards and all the winter sports start in earnest in the first and second week.

Congratulations to our rangatahi involved in winter sports here at the College. We have;

  • 15 Netball teams
  • 6 Football teams
  • 6 Rugby teams
  • 7 Badminton teams
  • 9 Basketball teams
  • 2 Hockey teams
  • 10 - 15 extra Basketball teams in Intra-school BBall for Term 3

Thank you to all our staff who have committed to coaching and managing a team this term. It makes a huge difference to the culture of the college and our community to have so many students actively participating in sports.
Positive events, such as Smokefree Rockquest and our School Taster Days where we host our intermediate Year 8 students so they feel informed and involved to have an easy social and academic transition into Waitākere College, offer opportunities for our students to excel and contribute.

Academically, parents and whānau of Years 11, 12 and 13 students should now be banking Achievement Standards (AS) and you should be discussing those results with your children and tamariki. Checking academic progress in these two weeks ensures that students are not left behind but maintain the work to achieve.
Every Wednesday there are after school tutorials with staff from 3:15 until 4:30 - Take the opportunity.
These are the best of days so it is important to take advantage of the positive opportunities that are on offer here at Waitākere College to be the best you can be.

Ngā mihi

Mark P Shanahan
