Positive Opportunities

Term 2 starts fast and finishes fast, it is the term where many NCEA students load in their first achievement standards and all the winter sports start in earnest in the first and second week.
Congratulations to our rangatahi involved in winter sports here at the College. We have;

  • 17 Netball teams
  • 6 Football teams
  • 4 Rugby teams
  • 7 Badminton teams
  • 6 Basketball teams
  • 2 Hockey teams
  • 10 - 15 extra Basketball teams in Intra-school BBall for Term 3

Thank you to all our staff who have committed to coaching and managing a team this term. It makes a huge difference to the culture of the college and our community to have so many students actively participating in sports.

Academically, parents and whānau of Years 11, 12 and 13 students should now be banking Achievement Standards (AS) and you should be discussing those results with your children and tamariki. Checking academic progress in these two weeks ensures that students are not left behind but maintain the work to achieve.
Every Year 11 student should have completed their first AS and should have their results ready to share with you. Look for the weekly reports and school NCEA credit updates next week.
Years 12 and 13 should now have completed AS from Term 1 which will also be in their NCEA credit updates next week.
Use this information to discuss goals and the approach to school work for the rest of Term 2.

Every Wednesday there are after school tutorials with staff from 3:15 until 4:30. Take the opportunity.
These are the best of days so it is important to take advantage of the positive opportunities that are on offer here at Waitākere College to be the best you can be.

Ngā mihi
Mark P Shanahan.
