We have now completed 8 weeks of the term, and our engaged students have established solid learning routines. The senior students understand the expectations of the College and are successfully working on their NCEA Achievement Standards at Levels 1, 2, and 3. Meanwhile, the junior school students are reestablishing the expected behavioral and learning routines in Year 10, while Year 9 students are learning what is necessary to succeed at Waitākere College.
The opportunity to reflect on where senior students are academically was taken by many parents and students on Wednesday evening with the senior course whānau interviews. An excellent turn out with good conversations on next steps for students to achieve to be the best they can be. Seniors, take the opportunity in these next two weeks to complete Achievement Standards at Achieved, Merit, or Excellence. For Junior students the reflection is available by looking at the Weekly Reports issued physically and via School Bridge App and on the website. Students should now be working consistently to achieve a 3 or 4 score to indicate that they have good learning routines which are;
- Being prepared for class and having the correct equipment
- Lining up at class, on timeand ready to learn
- Sitting in the allocated seating plan
- Do the 'Do Now' warm up learning recall activity
- Focus on the Learning Intention/Objective for that lesson
Having these habits will result in 3 or 4 grades in each subject. If they are receiving a 1 or a 2 grade they need to reflect and work on good learning routines as outlined. For those with 3 or 4 grades - well done on your preparation and learning. For those with 1 or 2 grades - make the changes to do the good learning routines. There are no excuses. Reflect and set goals to achieve and be Better Than Before (BTB).
