Principal's Message

It’s been a very settled and busy term to date. Student behaviour and engagement has been excellent. Our focus is very much on academic endeavour and enjoying winter sports and the activities outside of the classroom that make school life memorable.

We are blessed to have staff and volunteers that continue to provide opportunities for high numbers of students to represent the school in sports. Alongside of this is the school band, spoken word competitions, lunch time activities such as Board Games, lunchtime fun in te whare Angitu and so many other opportunities that enhance the enjoyment of school.

Attendance v Achievement – Thank You Whanau!!

40 plus NCEA credits – for all Year 11, 12 and 13 students: we set a goal this term for all senior students to have achieved a goal of achieving 40 credits by the end of this term. Many students have achieved this, well done! Please check in with your son/daughter and see where they currently sit. Alternatively, please contact the school/dean.

I want to congratulate and thank our whaanau for making an intentional effort to getting your children into school, on time, and every day. There has been a marked improvement in our overall attendance.

However, there remains a problem with students returning to the dorms in a timely fashion on Sunday evenings, or parents withdrawing students outside of official school time frames. Please be reminded, if you wish to take your son/daughter out of school for any reason outside of normal circumstances, (illness, bereavement etc.) you need to contact/write to the Principal for approval.

We have little way to go before every student can be considered at the Government expectation of 90% plus attendance, but the signs are very positive – thank you!

Ministry of Education - Day Student Bus Reminders

1. Caregivers are responsible for safely transporting their children to and from their school bus stop and as such are best placed to decide the safest way to do this.
2. Stick to the speed limit: it’s 20kph when passing a stopped school bus (on either side of the road).
3. Drop your son/daughter off on the same side of the road as the bus stop.
Teach your son/daughter to always get out of the car on the side closest to the curb.
4. Remind your son/daughter how to keep safe boarding and disembarking the bus:
5. While waiting at the bus stop, keep well back from the road.
6. Wait until the bus has completely stopped and the door opens before getting on.
7. After getting off the bus, stand well back from the road and wait until the bus has gone and you can see clearly before moving.

There are 2 buses that leave from Papakura for Wesley College every morning. There is room for everyone on the buses, so no one should be saying that there was no room on the buses.

Appropriate behaviour on the buses is expected from our students.

A reminder that this is a Ministry of Education Day Student Bus, we could lose this privilege if we don’t respect  the driver, the vehicle and other students on the bus.
