Characteristics of success

At the Senior Prizegiving, I outlined characteristics and behaviours that have allowed our students, staff, parents and whānau to be successful.
These key characteristics that have emerged over this and the last couple of years have allowed each of us to be successful now and, I believe, into the future. These are:
·       Be present: celebrate and acknowledge NOW (prepare for the future things BUT celebrate NOW). Put your phone down, look up and smile.
·       Manawanui (resilience): never give up, never give up, never give up.
·       Respect: for each other, our cultures, our similarities, our differences, and our democracy (as globally we can see that it’s fragile). This builds Pride in who we are.
·       Routines (positive patterns): find positive patterns that keep you going and develop that positive habit. Simple things like attending regularly, with what I call “same, same but different” routines of learning but in a daily and then weekly positive pattern. Walking and exercising, and being around positive people daily. Giving of your time routinely.
·       Responsibility: Only you can control how you react to events around you. Step back, breathe, think, find positive solutions and act.
These characteristics will empower you to be better than before. BTB
