As a country we will sit back and enjoy an All Black vs South Africa Rugby World Cup final on free to air TV this Sunday. We'll rejoice as winners or console ourselves if we lose. The outcome is not predictable. This is the nature of sport and what draws us to it.
It's finals week next for our Years 10, 11, 12, and 13 students. Year 10 students will have their Numeracy and Literacy Common Assessment Tasks next week starting on Monday. Year 11 students will be signed out of school in preparation for NCEA externals which start on November 6. Their first opportunity to sit authentic external assessments. Years 12 & 13 students will do the same with sign-out on Thursday to sit external assessments starting November 6.
These finals are predictable as the students have a solid idea of the content of the assessments by practising on past paper questions and answers for each assessment and working with teachers. There is a small amount of luck about how the questions may be structured but the content knowledge will test what each student has prepared for. If students have prepared and put the work in they generally get what they deserve.
So keep working and practising so your finals are about rejoicing.
