We continue with our theme of the key initiatives that lead to success as outlined last week.
Structure systems and daily routines are king, and the discipline to carry them out and maintain them is our superpower. So for us here at Waitākere College, some of the systems and routines that are king at this time of the year are;
- Attend every day
- Be on time – move to class on the bell
- Use your planner – and pack your bag at night for tomorrow
- Complete the ‘Do Now’
- Write down the Learning Intention/Goal for the lesson
- Learn one new skill or bit of knowledge from each lesson
Apply the discipline to do these things as a minimum every day so that it becomes a positive habit that allows you to have the superpower leading to your success
Our results from 2023 show that many of our students are developing that superpower of discipline and systems.  Our University Entrance at 45 % caters to those students planning on a tertiary course. With over 100 students in year 13 studying for high-end apprenticeships via our Trades Academies and not eligible for UE courses, our actual UE Eligible pass rate is 56%.
The discipline and manawanui our students, staff, family and whānau put in over 2023 have produced positive rewards.
Our goal for 2024 is to ensure we keep our systems and routines strong and ensure we have the discipline to ensure positive habits for success are in place.
