Welcome to the 2023 School Year

In our College Karakia, the first two lines refer to "cease the winds from the West, cease the winds from the South - Whakataka te hau ki te uru, whakataka te hau ki te tonga" - We hope that this is the case after such a dramatic weather related start to the year.
Thank you - to our many families and whānau that have donated so many quality second hand uniforms that we have been able to distribute to students affected by these weather events and just those generally in need. It has made such a huge difference in a stable start for rangitahi.
Thank you once again.
Our Pōwhiri for our new students from Year 9 upwards was a wonderful event. Full sunlight, our newly refurbished auditorium, and approximately 400 students, family and whānau. A great way to begin the academic year.
These new, aspiring students will be mentored by our wonderful team of Peer Mentors. These are students from Years 12 & 13 who have trained over the break to support the Year 9 students' journey into our College. They will meet the Year 9 students weekly over terms 1 and 2 to ensure the new students have a senior student that they can check in and connect with over this time. Peer Mentoring has a positive success record in growing the social capacity of both groups of students as they go through College.
The penultimate line of our Karakia reads, " He tio, he huka, he hau hu - with a sharpened air, a touch of frost, a promise of a glorious day...", we look forward to a glorious year.

Welcome back.

Ngā mihi
Mark P Shanahan
