As we head into the business end of the term for seniors, with respect to a lot of assessments and/or projects being due, and the pilot NCEA numeracy/literacy assessments sat this week by some of our Year 10’s, we turn our attention to the pressures of time and goal setting. With whānau invited in this week and next Tuesday 20th of June for report evening and interviews, this is a time to get an update on where your child/children are placed in terms of their progress and provides a timely space before the end of the term to set goals both to achieve by the end of the term and also over the second half of the year.
A saying that generated from the Armed Forces is "Proper Prior Planning Prevents Poor Performance". We all know how true this is, I only need to think back to some of my own DIY mishaps that could have been better planned out. By sitting down together and road mapping their weekly journey and plans for the second half of the year, we are able to look ahead and forecast problems or roadblocks that may get in the way of achieving the best they possibly can. By taking stock of where they are at with credit totals so far, they can make targeted decisions and manage their time proportionately. Often knowing where to start is half the hurdle or challenge when it comes to assignments but the important thing is that they start.
“You don’t have to be great to start, but you have to start to be great” Zig Ziglar.
