Kia ora koutou,
It was another busy week for the college last week, with the ‘Gateway / Vocational’ and ‘Sports Awards’ celebration evenings. For the first time we acknowledged students from years 7-13 for elite sporting achievements. It was amazing to see the range of sports in which students from Orewa College excel in. Likewise at the Vocational evening, the students spoke about their positive work experiences across a range of employers. Both of these events were very well supported by staff and parents which is reaffirming.
On Wednesday, 1st November Orewa College acknowledges the academic achievements of senior school students, with the Years 11 and 12 Prizegiving at 11.30am and the Year 13 Graduation ceremony at 7pm. I look forward again to hearing and acknowledging the impressive achievement of our students across all learning areas. The details relating to end of year arrangements for all students in Years 11 to 13 are contained in this LINK.
A number of local sponsors are coming forward to support the college in our rich and diverse extra-curricular programme which Orewa College is well known for. This is very much appreciated. Any support in this important area of the school would be much appreciated and enquiries are welcome via this LINK.
Hopefully some decent spring weather is on the way! Have a good week.
Ngā mihi
Greg Pierce Principal |

Whakataukī Poster / Video Competition 2023 | | In celebration of Māori Language Week we ran our first Whakataukī Poster competition this year.
From all the magnificent entries Angela Yang's entry was deemed the most impressive and helped her take away the wonderful $50 Countdown Gift Voucher Prize! Rawe Angela!
Angela's homeroom (8PDR & 8ODL) also won the form class competition for their group effort of making lots of different posters and combining them into a clever video.
For their efforts, they enjoyed some kai in the form of a pizza lunch! Thank you to all of those students and form classes that entered.

Senior Student ReportsThe Senior Record of Learning (Years 11-13) and Step Ahead Reports will be available on the web portal from Tuesday 31 October. |
Careers HubAs we approach the end of seniors being in school, we remind caregivers and students that it is a good time to get some part-time work. This will always give students a better understanding of the world of work and make them more employable once they leave school.
If students are looking for jobs, MoneyHub has some valuable links. Students can also use our CV Templates on our Google Classroom (code frapsx6) if they are needing to.
As a department we have endeavoured to have a Career conversation with every Year 12 & 13 this year, however, if students didn't manage to have an appointment, please encourage them to reach out to us during exam leave - we are available until school finishes.
Year 10 Tasters will be occurring in Week 6 - students will find out their groups by the end of this week and will have briefings next week.
